About SHENGHE
From Shigu, Hunan, SHENGHE brings a local umbrella-making tradition into contemporary design. Paper, bamboo and decorative threadwork give each umbrella its character.

Culture & craft
At SHENGHE in Shigu, bamboo ribs are smoothed by hand and coloured threads are worked between them. A canopy assembled from four paper sections completes the rounded form. Our current collection pairs this construction with thicker ribs, a shaped handle and three hand-applied coats of tung-oil-free gloss finish. From the artwork above to the threadwork below, the details belong to the same umbrella.
